Mud & Lime is a little operation based in Southeastern Ohio specializing in custom natural finishes.

Our natural plasters and paints are completely free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and made by hand to our client's specifications using variations of clay, lime, sand and natural pigments. They can be used in place of conventional paints or papers just about anywhere, even over drywall or in the shower. Natural plasters have the additional benefits of helping to regulate interior temperatures and humidity, minimizing the growth of mold and bacteria. Natural paints and plasters are an ancient, low impact way to create beautiful, modern spaces.

Kristin Fleming founded Mud & Lime in 2016 to share her love of the namesake materials with her community. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, she first fell in love with natural plasters the summer of 2010 in the woods of Western Massachusetts. After completing her BA in Urban Studies and Community Organizing at the University of Pittsburgh, she followed these materials to the American Southwest. In the Fall of 2015 she interned with Community Rebuilds in Moab, Utah where she helped complete two straw bale homes from foundation to finish. Since then, she’s traveled around the country working on various projects with incredible support from Sigi Koko, Liz Johndrow, and a whole community of amazing craftspeople. Now in collaboration with Good Building Co. and Black Locust LLC, she is passionate about the beauty of low- impact living in all its forms and works toward making it an accessible norm.
